Team Flow with the Grow from Washburn High School won an award for best outreach initiative. Using Arctic char donated from UWSP NADF, the team led fish dissections and taught six graders about fish health and anatomy as well as aquaculture and food security. The high schoolers also took the sixth graders on a tour of their aquaponics systems, which featured an innovative material: paper composite cutting boards.
Instead of floating the plants on traditional Styrofoam rafts, which were old, flaking, and difficult to clean, the team opted for a food-grade, water-resistant material from epicurean, a company based in Superior, Wisconsin, that makes cutting boards from paper and resin.

The School District of Washburn is excited to share that construction and renovation projects are now officially underway. Made possible by the community’s support of the November 2024 referendum, these much-anticipated updates will bring significant improvements to the middle and high school.

Dear Castle Guard Families, Staff, Students, and Community Members,
As we approach the end of the 2025-2026 school year, there is so much to celebrate in the School District of Washburn. Our students have reached incredible heights this year, from achieving significant academic growth on our state report cards to showcasing our Castle Guards on the stage with amazing music performances. This spring, we also celebrated the girls' and boys' track teams as Conference Champions. These honors are a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support of our families. I am incredibly proud to be both a Washburn educator and a community member!

We are thrilled to announce that the construction team is officially gearing up for a transformational summer at the Washburn Middle/High School!
Big Improvements Ahead: School Renovation Schedule
Construction and renovation projects approved in the November 2024 capital referendum will begin this summer, immediately after graduation. Following mobilization in early June, crews will be on-site for approximately 16–18 months.
