Referendum Introduction

The School District of Washburn’s Long-Range Planning Committee (made up of community members, school board members, school staff, and parents) and the Board of Education have been meeting monthly to create intentional strategies for our students and facilities.

Phased Approach to Facilities Planning

School District of Washburn originally initiated a long-range facilities planning process in 2023 with a high/middle school facilities assessment. Our goal for many years has been to address identified facility needs in distinct project phases to be the best stewards of taxpayer money.

Following the completion of a comprehensive facilities assessment, we were able to identify areas of need in our school buildings and develop a strategy to assist with the future planning needs of the district.

Financial Considerations

The School District of Washburn’s tax mill rate (which is used to calculate the share of local property taxes) has declined nearly 38% since 2019-2020 and consistently remained below the state average.

The District is also nearly debt-free.
